Montgomery, AL – On February 4, 2023, the Montgomery Housing Authority, West Montgomery Action Committee, and several community partners are coming together to celebrate Mrs. Rosa L. Parks, civil rights activist and humanitarian, 110th birthday with a rose garden groundbreaking ceremony including, a choir performance, live music, speakers, balloon release, artist painting, and cake and ice cream.

The celebration will commence at 11:30 a.m., at the historic home of Rosa and Raymond Parks, located at 634 Cleveland Court, Montgomery AL, 36108 in Parks Place. Following the groundbreaking on Saturday, volunteers will begin beautifying and adorning Mrs. Parks’ home with the planting of fresh roses. Along with the other festivities, tours of the home will be conducted.

The Montgomery Housing Authority (MHA) is a not-for-profit organization creating affordable, sustainable housing while improving the quality of life for families and encouraging independence. MHA owns the home where Mrs. Rosa L. Parks, her husband Raymond Parks and mother Leona McCauley lived during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The organization is committed to preserving Mrs. Rosa Parks legacy by sharing the story of her personal life beyond the bus boycott.

The West Montgomery Action Committee (WMAC), led by Jefferson Jones, is committed to empowering the community through civic engagement, community service and social justice. In late 2022, NMAC was awarded a beautification grant by Mid-South RC& D to plant a garden in honor of Mrs. Rosa Parks, a leader who inspired people of all generations locally and worldwide. Planting will be in early March.
